Before we attempt to understand fashion we must understand people….but people aren’t meant to be understood so perhaps fashion isn’t either

Gucci Falls into Fashion: Fall Trends

Gucci is still defining the trends for Mens Fashion for Fall 2011. The picture above was taken from Gucci Fall 2011 Fashion Show during Milan Fashion Week. The first thing that comes to mind when viewing this look is “Tailored”. Tailored suits are still very popular among young, and mature gentlemen. Gucci uses the grey 2piece suit as the back drop to showcase the presence of two unlikely color combinations (blue and Wine). This is a very subtle choice however the the printed fringe pocket squares adds color as well as texture to complete this very tailored look. This is also from Gucci Fall 2011 Collection. This is a 2 piece ash grey suit patterned in a series of squares. Paring the suit with a solid brown shirt accents the squares which are patterned on the suit. Another thing we see is bye bye to the straight leg, Gucci has reintroduced its mens fashion to the open leg design.  But the things that complete this look are shoes, and “man bag”. Yes the “man bag” has made it’s way back onto the runways. This popular trend dates back to 100 years ago when men carried these bags that housed every day essentials for. Also shoes, shoes as in any ensemble has one of thee biggest if not the biggest effect on the overall look, so selecting the proper shoes to complete this Tailored look is essential.

Things to remember*

Fit is everything-it’s simple for most of us we can get every suit tailored however it’s very simple to go to your nearest Men’s Department for the proper fit.

Take Chances-play with patterns, cuts and colors to see what works and what does not.

Geek Chic: Smart and Savvy Fashion for Men

Geek Fashion is a continuing popular trend among, men and women. This is very new the idea of the Geek Fashion has not always been excepted. In the late 80’s when Geek or Nerd fashion wasn’t that popular. Ex; Steve Urkel (Family Matters) fashions were not really popular amongst his peers. When everyone in his high school was following the latest trends, he maintained his “high-watered” pants and his assorted collection of cardigans.

This is very different in today’s fashion arena. More and more men are continuing education so they are often introduced to the “ivy league” look or preppy fashion. For those who don’t attend college they are inspired by celebrities who’ve taken on the “Geek Chic” trends. One celebrity who’s often spotted in those trends are Kanye West(pictured below);

Pictured Above along side Sean Carter. Is appeared in a pair of black of black frame readers. He’s wearing a Grey  patterned suit, paired with a white crisp dress shirt along with striped suspenders.

Geek Chic will continue to become more popular from college men, celebrities and fashion savvy individuals. Although many may describe these trends as preppy, beatnik, punk and even hip-hop inspirations. I simply call it “Geek Chic” a simple savvy form of  great men fashions.

1970’s Revamped: The Prom Blazer

Though today most men choose to wear solid color blazers tailored to fit the body, often times slim fitted. This was very different in the late 70’s early 80’s. Young men were spotted in flare jackets mostly black and white, characterized by ruffeles. Yea Ruffles. Although today not too many will wear ruffles, there are ways to recreate this 70’s inspiration minus the ruffles.

Pictured above is a blazer that I designed, it’s a simple 100% cotton material colored in charcoal grey. The Blazer intially had a very formal feel to it, one in which I didn’t like. So I decided to add some white trimming(shown above). The trimming outlined the blazer flaps and neck. After wearing this blazer for the first time my dad said “This looks like the blazer I wore to my Junior Prom”. I thought to myself is that a good thing? I ultimatley realized he was.

I Paired with the blazer a crips white dress shirt along with a black bow-tie which I made.

Pictured Above is my “man broach”(pictured above), yea that’s right. I heard about these things but I was unsure. However I decided to make one. I had an old monopoly piece, some sliver buttons and a chain from my old dog-tag necklace. I hot glued these pieces together, and then sew it on to my blazer. I really don’t know if it would be considered as a “broach”. But that’s what I call it. I don’t know if I will be sporting them often, but I’m definitely in love with this one.

So I think this is my new favorite blazer..what do you think?

Thorocraftx Spring 2010 Men’s Shoe Collection has arrived

A shoe brand based out of New York, is ready for it’s Spring 2010 shoe released. Alex James is ready to introduce a modern twist to traditional rustic men’s wear. Alex James have received inspiration from a variety of entities, even the Vietnam.   This handmade shoe collection will include Ross, Trevor and Xanders. I’m not the biggest fan of short-boots I’m ready to add these to my Spring/Fall wardrobe. But at a healthy price of 300 I will make a good wear out of them. This is being possible because the boot has much versatility. I’m ready to see these boots hit the runway to see how designers coordinate them with various looks.
